New Jersey Bariatric Surgery is an option for patients with severe obesity (BMI equal to or greater than 40 kg/m2 or BMI equal to or greater than 35 kg/m2 with significant medical risk factors). Prior to using that option, other non-invasive methods of treatment usually have been tried without success.

Body mass index (BMI) is a statistical measure of body fat based upon the height and weight of adults, 20 years and older.
To compute your BMI, enter your height and weight then click the “Compute BMI” button.
Underweight = less than 18.5
Normal weight = 18.5 to 24.9
Overweight = 25 to 29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
